Memorial Day is a time to honor and acknowledge the brave sacrifice so many of our men and women made in service to country. To that end, we come together at parades and ceremonies to remember their courage. We also think of the three-day weekend as a time to celebrate the arrival of summer, which is just around the corner. This is a time when friends and family are together, often outdoors, enjoying potlucks, barbecues and—if we’re lucky—the pool. Ah Sam Flowers recognizes that the flowers we exchange or use to decorate with at this time have a couple of different functions; they must speak to the poignancy of the occasion at hand, but also capture the festive, social spirit.
They say Mother’s Day is like the Superbowl of Flowers, and Ah Sam Florist would agree. It seems everyone is dying to get their hands on—and give—the most beautiful and meaningful bouquet of blossoms that ever was. Mother’s Day arrives in one of the best seasons for flowers; spring’s bounty is bright, bold, feminine, romantic and enticing. It’s not hard to find something gorgeous to offer your mom. The only question is how you’ll narrow it down to just one floral gift.
It’s nearly May, and soon enough those prom, graduation and other end of the school year invites will start rolling in. Whether you’ve got a soon-to-be grad or not, you’ll likely find yourself attending at least one recital, performance or ceremony this June, or at least in the position to send congratulatory flowers. Here at Ah Sam Florist, we’ve got boutonnieres, corsages, event-worthy flowers and much, much more. We’re prepped for June’s biggest parties, and we can help you get that way, too.
It’s a double whammy May 6 through May 12—both Nurses and Teachers Appreciation Week. Ah Sam Florist has a bevy of spring flowers to choose from, but we also think there’s a special kind of design you want to offer to our most special people. These are two fields that are overwhelmingly dominated by women, so we’re thinking of this as a chance to honor and celebrate our Super Ladies—the ones who nurture us, teach us and by and large raise us. For them, only a bright, bountiful arrangement will do.
Earth Day is orbiting back around again on April 22, and we here at Ah Sam Flowers are stocked with some of our planet’s finest, most dazzling fruits in the form of flowers and plants. This year, get involved in our community by attending a recycling drive, planting, environmental fair or clean-up. Afterwards, have a meal that makes liberal use of the garden and go ahead and eat al fresco; celebrating the Earth and promoting conscious living on it is an important aspect of this day. While you gather with friends and family, top your dining table with a centerpiece that reflects just how beautiful nature can be.
Desktops can look a little dull after a long winter. They need some brightening up, a nice spring clean and a new plant or flower, if you ask us at Ah Sam Florist. And that’s why we’re here campaigning on behalf of desktops everywhere, just ahead of Administrative Professionals Day (April 25) and at the very moment when we predict most workplaces could use a refresh.
While you’re kicking off the season with a deep spring clean of your home, don’t forget that adding some new decor items is just as refreshing as subtracting some. Ah Sam Florist sees a spring clean as a time to rethink how we’ve styled our homes and offices and to remove what no longer serves us from the scene. But new decor items are just as important to our sense of well-being and balance, and that includes flowers and plants.
There’s just something about baskets—getting them, delivering them to someone else, designing flowers inside of them, as we here at Ah Sam Florist do. They tap into a long tradition of carrying food or supplies, of bearing precious items, and they remind us that at one point, basket-making was the work of skilled artisans. These humble containers are emblematic of Easter, and they also symbolize comfort and plenty. To us, filling them with flowers is a natural fit.
Ah Sam Flowers knows the nose knows when it comes to flowers.
For all of their visual appeal, flowers make an equally strong appeal to our olfactory sense, which is to say that they smell good and we like good smells. And while certainly not all flowers were created equal when it comes to scent, each one does have its own distinct fragrance, even if that fragrance hews more to the description of “smelling fresh.”
March 7 was World Hyacinth Day, a global celebration of this fragrant flower that springs from a bulb. Hyacinths begin to bloom in March, perfuming the air with their delicate clusters. Here at Ah Sam Florist, we’re doing our part to ensure that the hyacinth—a flower with its own Greek myth—gets its due.
