They are the subject of many jokes and horror stories. But the reality is, many a mother-in-law is just as beloved as a mom, and in that spirit we celebrate Mother-In-Law Day on October 25. Observing Mother-In-Law Day is, for the most part, very similar to its counterpart in May. Many consider the in-laws to be close family, and although you may honor her on Mother’s Day, this is the opportunity to single out this special lady, and let her know just how glad you are to be a part of her family.
It is entirely appropriate to send flowers meaningful to all mothers for this holiday. Carnations are the classic flower to send to a loving mom, with pink varieties signifying love and gratitude, while red carnations tell her that she is admired. Roses and orchids both represent beauty. Lilies also carry great significance for mothers – calla lilies also represent her beauty, both inside and out; and day lilies are specifically considered in Eastern cultures to be the flower of motherhood.

For a more lighthearted and fun gesture, sunflowers are bright and cheerful and represent friendship, adoration and respect. Gerbera daisies have a cheery, playful aura, and deliver color and vibrancy to a mother-in-law who adds those things to your life. Violets are particularly meaningful, denoting faithfulness and devotion. For a floral gift that lasts all year, you may wish to send a violet plant; a lovely addition to any home or office that will remind her again and again just how much you think of her.
