Homecoming Flowers for Every Dance

Homecoming weekend is a chance for alumni to revisit their old stomping grounds and reconnect with friends; while current students look forward to pep rallies, the Homecoming Court, and the big dance. At many San Mateo area schools, everyone will gather for the football game, ready to cheer on the team against their biggest rival. Through all the events and festivities, flowers play a beautiful role – and the designers at Ah Sam Florist are ready to make this weekend one to remember! How Did Homecoming Begin? The first homecoming weekend on record was in 1910, and took place at the University of Missouri. Facing University of Kansas in their traditional grudge match, the athletic department decided to try to fill the stands to capacity – and so invited alumni to “come home” for the game. The response was overwhelming, as over 10,000 alumni and guests responded – and homecoming tradition was born. It didn’t take long to catch on either. The University of Illinois began their homecoming observance just one year later, and has celebrated every year since. homecoming flowers

School traditions are varied, and can include pep rallies, speeches by famous or successful alumni, concerts, bonfires and tailgating parties – with the main events generally being the football game and crowning of the Homecoming Court, and the formal dance. There are many ways that flowers are incorporated into the celebrations:

* Senior members leaving the football team often honor their mothers with corsages during this game.

* Alumni associations may choose to buy corsages and boutonnieres for longtime teachers and coaches.

* Returning alumni may wear floral arrangements displaying school colors.

* Every member of the homecoming court will receive either a corsage or a bouquet.

* Homecoming flowers such as corsages and boutonnieres are customarily presented to one’s date for the dance.

Homecoming Flowers : When choosing a corsage and boutonniere, the dress is your main inspiration. The style of the dress will help to select the most appropriate flowers – is it classic or trendy, simple or elaborate? When deciding on a color palette, you do not need to match the dress and flowers perfectly, in fact contrasting hues and complimentary colors can make a beautiful statement. The boutonniere is generally a small token derived from the corsage – that is, it is designed to appear to have been plucked directly from her flowers.

In San Mateo, the best place to call for homecoming flowers – or bouquets and arrangements for any special occasion – is Ah Sam Florist. We make every event more beautiful.
