June is National Wedding Month – and there is no shortage of wedding celebrations taking place across San Mateo, San Francisco and throughout the Silicon Valley. And while it is true that June is likely popular due to the fact that weather across the United States is temperate and beautiful, there are actually some ancient reasons the June evolved as the month to tie the knot. No matter the reason, you can count on Ah Sam Florist to provide the gorgeous wedding flowers you need for your most special day.
Did You Know? After June, the most common months for weddings are July, May & September.
The goddess Juno was thought to look after the women of Rome; she was a protector in all aspects of life, but especially marriage and childbearing. Therefore having a wedding in the month named after her was considered to be good luck for the bride. Many of our modern customs are actually derived from ancient Roman traditions, and this is one very happy one.
There is also an ancient Celtic tradition that places weddings in the month of June. Their custom was that on May Day (May 1), young couples would begin a 3-month courtship, and then be wed on Lammas Day, which is August 1. However, it seems young people didn’t like to wait so long, so the elders shortened the waiting period to mid-June, which was then when every wedding took place.
